Boat docks on Lake Hamilton
Dock building and repair for Lake Hamilton's homes, coves and main channel, just south of Hot Springs.
Lake Hamilton covers about 7,200 acres on the Ouachita River just south of Hot Springs. It formed behind Carpenter Dam, completed in 1931, and was built for hydroelectric power by Arkansas Power & Light, today part of Entergy. Its long, winding shoreline is lined with homes, condos and marinas, and it's a popular boating lake.
What dock work do Lake Hamilton owners need?
- New floating docks with lifts and covered slips
- Flotation and decking repair on older docks
- Seawalls and riprap against boat-wake erosion
- Storm repairs to roofs, anchoring and walkways
Entergy permits
Lake Hamilton is part of Entergy's FERC-licensed Project No. 271. The property owner applies to Entergy for a permit before building or changing a dock, with fully dimensioned drawings sent to LakePermits@Entergy.com. Entergy's rules cap deck height at 5 feet and roof height at 15 feet above summertime full pool.
Busy water
Heavy boat traffic means more wakes. Docks on the main channel face more wave action than those tucked in coves, which affects anchoring, flotation and walkway design. Tell the builder where your shoreline sits on the lake.
